It's just that time of year, isn't it? (photo credit: sean dreilinger via creative commons)
The method I use in my classes is Wendy Maxwell's AIM method - it focuses on oral language, and on integrating as many different learning styles as possible. It includes lots of movement, drama and music. We've had great success with it, and I'm looking forward to continuing to build on that.
Have questions? Want more information? Check out the AIM website at www.aimlanguagelearning.com or reach me at lisa_noble@kprdsb.ca. If you want to have this newsletter automatically delivered to your inbox each week, please send me your e-mail (either by e-mail, or with your child!).

Curriculum update:
Grade 5/6: The play presentations were amazing - everybody took part, and gave it their best effort. We're be wrapping up this unit, and starting a new one in the weeks to come. Gesture vocab with english.pdf
Grade 6: Again, an amazing bunch of play presentations. Portfolios will be coming home to you shortly for your feedback.
Grade 7 and 7/8: Continuing irregular verb work, and preparing for play presentations.
Grade 8: Working on past tense structures, and preparing for play presentations.
Music update:  Music Monday was amazing! The band got tons of positive feedback, and really showed off what they can do. Thanks to those of you who made it over to listen! You can check out the pictures http://www.mykawartha.com/news/article/1350134--music-monday-celebrated-at-queen-mary-school Band practice is Wednesday morning. Band trip to Wonderland is scheduled for June 12, and we'll be looking for parents to come with us. Cost is approximately $60/child (bus and Wonderland ticket). Permission forms will be coming home very shortly!

If your child has not brought an instrument home yet, they really need to  join a practice session in the music room on Wednesdays at first break. Practice is a graded part of the music program.

Madame's "What's New" blog - Each week I feature websites, video, books and music you might find interesting....let me know what you're watching and listening to, so I can feature it.

Website:  In honour of mother's day, a few things: I thought this was an interesting post, as were the comments that went after it - there's not a lot on this list of sites for "cool moms" that appealed to me, how about you? (http://mashable.com/2012/05/12/mom-websites/#63525Birchbox). And I'd be remiss if I didn't point you in the direction of some of the fun people have been having with the Time cover about motherhood. (http://mashable.com/2012/05/10/time-breastfeeding-cover-twitter/) What do you think?
Books: My younger guy got very wrapped up in a story this week: "The Girl who circumnavigated fairyland in a ship of her own making" (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/9591398-the-girl-who-circumnavigated-fairyland-in-a-ship-of-her-own-making). How can you resist a book with a title like that - particularly when it features a character known as a wyverary - created when a library and a wyvern (a type of dragon, in case you don't know) love each other very much. He was completely enthralled. The intermediate readers have been all abuzz over the arrival of "Insurgent", the sequel to Divergent (http://thedivergenttrilogy.com/), and the new Cassandra Clare, of course (http://www.cassandraclare.com/), City of Lost Souls. Clary was kicking demon butt long before Bella came along, so check her out! (even if there is a love triangle - 'cause really, is it YA fantasy without a love triangle?)
Music:  Again, Peterborough is awash with riches.....on Thursday night, the astonishing Measha Brueggergosman will be at Showplace. The world-renowned operatic diva is shaking it up a little, applying her incredible voice to everything from Joni Mitchell to Cole Porter. People are excited about this one. (http://www.measha.com/). And in this week's anti-hit list in the Star, P-boro's own Jos.Fortin got the nod for the most beautiful song on this list this week.(http://josfortin.bandcamp.com/track/so-far) More moody singer-songwriter stuff, but I love that stuff.
