What is an IEP?
An IEP stands for Individual Education Plan. IEPs are designed to support the development of Special Education Programs to ensure students are provided with accommodations, modifications and/or alternative programs based on their strengths and needs. The IEP is a working document that is developed in consultation with the student, parents and staff to ensure student success when appropriate relevant assessment information determines that he/she has special education needs. Continual assessment and revision of the IEP and its goals and expectations reflect the changing needs and progress of the student. Achievement of IEP goals and expectations is reported on the provincial report card (for Ontario Curriculum goals) and the Report Card Addendum (for goals that are alternative
to the Ontario Curriculum).
EXTRA-CURRICULAR
1) Patrols - I am the teacher supervisor for the Safety Patrol program. Each year students in grades 5 - 8 have the opportunity to be safety patrollers. Interested students are trained by Constable Jank, who is our Community Officer with the Peterborough PoliceDepartment . The students must pass a safety patrol test, based on the training they have just received. This year Queen Mary has 27 safety patrollers! These students play a very important role, in helping all of our students to cross the street safely. In
recognition of the students dedication and hard work, the Peterborough Police Department holds special events. On October 28th, patrols from across Peterborough were invited to a Halloween skate. More events will be held throughout the year.
2) Student Council - Mrs. Matthews and myself, work with our Student Council. Student Council is made up of representatives from each of our Intermediate classes. These students work hard to help organize events for the students of Queen Mary. Student Council organizes monthly spirit days - the next spirit day is Pajama Day on November 30th. On spirit days we also sell Kernals popcorn and all the profits from these sales are donated to charity. Student Council also help to organize our monthly assemblies and they help out whenever needed
around the school.
3) Battle of the Books - more information will be coming shortly
